Gather beside the late-summer worktable and make simple decorations from grain, herbs, meadow stems, raffia, saved paper and materials already waiting to be used.

Making with the Harvest Cottage

Begin with what is already close at hand: saved paper and card, garden twine, raffia, ribbon scraps, dried herbs, meadow stems and grain gathered or bought responsibly. Each project includes simple alternatives, so a meaningful decoration need not require a basket full of new supplies.

Gather with Gratitude

Use grain bought for crafting, garden-grown stems or material gathered with permission. Leave plenty for wildlife, avoid rare plants and never take from field edges, farms or protected places without the landowner’s consent.

Keep It Safe for the Cottage

Dried grain, grasses, herbs, paper and raffia can burn readily. Keep every decoration away from candles, hot bulbs, cookers, radiators and fireplaces. Check for sharp stems, loose seeds and tempting ribbons before placing crafts near children or curious paws.
